FPC Theology of Stewardship

Stewardship starts with God for by His grace we are given life, salvation, and undeserved gifts. Responding with gratitude flows into a generous life where we, as individuals and a church, share our gifts with others so that they, too, might know the grace and love of Jesus. Read more…

2026 Stewardship

Stewardship starts with God. We read in Scripture that the Triune God created us in His image, which means God desires for us to reflect and represent Him to each other and to the world. As His image-bearers, God gave us a specific vocation to care for and cultivate all that He has made and entrusted to us, which we call stewardship.

Each October, we set aside time to focus on our financial stewardship, both as the church, and as individuals. We ask that covenant partners and friends of First Pres prayerfully consider making a financial pledge for the upcoming year.

Please call the church business office with any questions.

Automated Bank Draft

Members can set up recurring gifts by having the church draft their bank account on a scheduled basis.

Many families find this a convenient way to ensure their pledge is fulfilled through regular giving throughout the year.

E-mail Annette Covington if you would like to set up a recurring bank draft.

Bank Bill Pay

Set up recurring gifts or make a one-time gift through your bank’s bill pay service. You can choose what day of the month to make a recurring gift.

Stock or Other Securities

Publicly-traded securities are a common form of non-cash gifts to the church. You may find that securities are an attractive option for gifting, because they are often appreciated in value, easily transferred, and usually easily valued for tax deduction purposes. The most common forms of securities gifts are shares of stock, bonds, and mutual funds.

Benefits include:

Immediate income tax deduction
Avoidance of capital gains taxes
Tax deduction based on current market value

Gifts of securities provide a less expensive way for you to give than cash. For example, if you paid $1,000 for your stock five years ago and today’s fair market value for it is $3,000, your gift of that stock will allow you to deduct the full fair market value ($3,000) instead of your cost basis ($1,000). To avoid capital gains taxes, you must transfer the securities, not sell and make the equivalent cash contribution.

For more information on how to make a gift of stock or other securities to the church please e-mail Ron Britt or Annette Covington. You may also call the church office at (336) 723-1621.

IRA Withdrawal Strategy

When planning your IRA withdrawal strategy, you may want to consider making a charitable gift through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). If you are required to take minimum distributions (RMDs) from your IRA, the QCD can be counted in satisfying this requirement. See your tax advisor on the requirements and advisability of such an approach, as well as the process to make a QCD contribution to the church.
