Weekly Opportunities for Women
Women’s Bible Study
Begins September 10
Women’s Bible Study at First Pres exists to bring women to Christ and disciple them so that their lives glorify God. We do this by engaging in:
Prayer
Corporate Worship
Personal Bible Study
Teaching of the Word
Small Group Discussion
For the fall 2026 and winter/spring 2027 semesters, our study will be: The Gospel According to Luke. In years past, we’ve generally covered a book of the Bible in 3-4 months. This year, we are going to slow down and let the study of Luke take us through the spring. The best way to tell you about that decision is to start with Luke’s short introduction, which also orients us to the book:
Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. Luke 1:1-4
Luke ends his short introduction by stating the purpose of his careful account: “that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.” We too, want to know the certainty of the gospel. This is the primary reason we will “slow down” our study this year. We want to know the certainty of the gospel with more than factual information. We want to know it with our souls. To that end, each lesson will end with an encouragement for you to practice lectio Divina with a short passage of your choosing from that week’s lesson. This practice, explained on pages 14-15, is not designed to be extra homework. Rather, it’s designed to be the heart of the lesson. We encourage you to engage as diligently with lectio Divina as you do with the homework questions.
